Owen's Blessing

The day before we left to go back home, we celebrated Owen! We decided to continue our unorthodox tradition of having the baby blessing at the Briggs' home. It turned out to be the perfect decision.  Shortly after we arrived, we got everyone gathered and Ryan gave a beautiful blessing for our sweet baby Owen. He pronounced wonderful blessings for him throughout his life. We can already tell Owen is going to go and do great things. He is such a special addition to our family. We are grateful for everyone who was there to support us and definitely miss those that couldn't.
my Mom found his outfit in Charleston and he seriously looked like a Prince George look-a-like! So dapper.

Summer Vaycay: North Carolina Part 2

The later half of our week vacation was spent with Ryan's family. We had fun going to Tweetsie in Blowing Rock. It's a cute little amusement park centered around younger children. The girls had a blast! It was extremely hot up there in the mountains, but we all had a blast together!

For Joshua's 8th birthday, we went to a fun park to celebrate. Joshua's aunt brought a pinata for the kids and it was the absolute hit of the party. Even some of the adults got in on the action. It was also another scorcher out and by the time we got back the girls had pretty much hit their wall and I decided to take them back to my parents for an early bedtime so that Ryan could stay hanging out with his family sans crabby kids :-) He told me that night how nice it was to hang out with his siblings without kid responsibilities. I know, I'm the best wife.

The last day we had in North Carolina, Ryan and the men in his family went golfing and afterwards, we celebrated Owen's blessing day! Owen gets his own blog post about his blessing, so stay tuned!

We had such a great time in North Carolina. I swear, every time we go home, we just don't want to leave. Having both sets of grandparents there really is pulling us back. We would love to be able to visit our family more frequently and have the girls and Owen grow up having them as a constant presence in their lives.

Summer Vaycay: North Carolina Part 1

We have been looking forward to this trip to North Carolina all year and it was definitely worth waiting for! We had such a blast spending time with many of our family members. We were able to see my brother older David and his family (+3 kids, Benjamin, Carter, and Dylan), Ryan's older sister and her family (+5 kids, Joshua, Chase, Beau, Tyler and Zachary), Ryan's younger sister, Ryan's brother who flew in from NYC, and both sets of parents.

We surprised my parents when we arrived because we decided to drive half-way on the way up which made us pull into Charlotte hours before they were actually expecting us. It was a great drive and the girls and Owen did fantastic. We only had to stop twice on both legs and no one had any meltdowns. Owen was an absolute dream! Our stops were between 20 and 40 minutes depending on how much he wanted to eat, but we tried to be as relaxed as we could knowing we were extending our trip minute by minute, which is not what we are used to. When it was just us and the girls, we could stop for 5-10 minutes and only stop a few times on a 10 hour drive. Ellie has been only potty trained for a month now, so for the drive, we had her wear a diaper just in case, but that girl didn't have ANY accidents the entire week!! SO much driving, so many distractions. That girl is a rockstar. When we showed up at my parents house around 2pm, they were SO excited. They picked up my brother and his family from the airport and the party could begin!

That night, the 4th, everyone went to watch fireworks on the boat. I stayed back with little Owen (no babies allowed on the boat). We had fun watching Hallmark movies and cuddling. Everyone had a great time and I'm glad the girls could experience real fireworks, a first for both of them!

The beginning of the week was spent with my family and we ended up filling every single moment with lots of boat time, lots of good food, and lots of fun cousin time for the kids.

My mom set up a fun FHE night of water games. It was a beautiful night to be outside. We were throwing water balloons and my favorite new game, picking up marbles in a kiddle pool with your toes. Brinley and I rocked that game together as a team! Long toes for the win!! haha

I love seeing Brinley and Ellie interact with their cousins. They have constant fun with them. Wish we could all live closer together and enjoy our together time ALL the time! Maybe someday :-)

Since I wasn't constantly with Brinley during the week due to nursing and taking care of Owen, it was such a fun time for me to hear from her all the fun they were having. Brinley had the BEST week of her life. She had so much fun with Benji and Carter and Dylan. She was adventurous on the boat and the tube. She loved riding fast and in circles. She loved being on the sea-doos. She looked and sounded more and more "big kid" more than ever this week. She is nearing 6 years old and this week, she totally acted like it. It showed to me that she is ok not having a constant helicopter mommy (even though I still am, but from a distance). She is responsible, caring, aware of her surroundings, cautious at times, and always up for a good time. She is the best big sister to look up to. Ellie had a great week too. She got to hang with the big kids occasionally, but what I learned about Ellie this week is that she isn't into being apart of the group most of the time. She spent a lot of one-on-one time with either Ryan or I at the house when everyone else was out on the boat. She loved being apart of the group, but only for a short time. Then, she was happy to chat my ear off playing with all of Grandma's toys. And what I learned about Owen is that someone else besides me or Ryan CAN put him down for a nap, and keep him asleep so that I can enjoy myself for a couple of hours and have fun!

NEXT UP: time with the Briggs!

OWEN: two months

This boy!!
weight: 12.5 lbs
length: 25 inches (99%!!)

We can't get enough of him. It is amazing how many changes happen by each passing week in the life of a newborn. He seems like a totally different baby than he did at just 1 month old.

This month Owen started smiling...and I have yet to catch it on camera because he gets so distracted by my phone in his face. Go figure ;-) He is such a cheeser and it seriously just melts my heart. He smiles SO big for his sisters. It makes me laugh so hard because they sit on either side of his bouncer chair and he just turns his head back and forth to look at both of them. Ellie likes to put her face RIGHT in front of his, and usually say something way too loud for anyone to hear, but he just loves her. Brinley still can't get enough of him. She is always using Owen as an excuse to get out of anything. The second she sits down to eat dinner, Mommy! Can I kiss Owen?? The second she goes into quiet time, Mommy, I just need to give you and Owen a kiss. It's adorable, but after doing that 15 times during dinner and quiet time...it's not so adorable. haha.

He loves his mama! He loves to watch me. He tracks me all around the house. And he settles down (usually) when he hears my voice. I just love him so much! He is a nursing champ and I'm so appreciate of that. The poor thing knows that getting an uninterrupted nursing session is hard to come by, so he chows down and gets the job done in 15 minutes. I've learned to nurse on the go too. I've put Ellie on the potty while nursing, I've done bath time while nursing, I've accepted a UPS package while nursing (sorry dude, but I did have my cover on...sometimes when your milk has let-down, you just can't put that baby down!).

Owen loves it when daddy comes home from work. He smiles and smiles at Ryan. Those two have the cutest bond. Ryan can get Owen to sleep usually without a peep from Owen. Or if he is fighting naps with me, I had him over to Ryan, and he is usually out within a minute or two. I blame it on Owen smelling my milk, but let's be honest...he just loves his daddy!

Enjoy the photo dump!
