5-0

A SUPER BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY DAD:
.
Dr. Robert Charles Steele
.
He turned 50 today!!! Can you believe that!???
.
Unfortunately the poor man is alone on a business trip in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
.
But this Saturday when we are all together in NC, we are going out for dinner to celebrate his b-day and mine (which is August 3rd....).
.
I love you, Dad! Live it up this year!

Dad on his new boat!!

"You Failed"

That is what the nurse told me yesterday after my glucose tolerance test.
.
Seriously, this is my reaction..."hahahaaa ya right."
Nurse: No really, you failed.
Me: You're not joking.
Nurse: Nope, you need to come in tomorrow for a 3 hour test.
.
GREAT. So that is what I did this morning.
.
I went in, got my finger pricked, drank another yucky drink (lemon-lime...yummm) and then every hour for 3 hours I had to get my finger pricked.
.
Thankfully, I brought a book and caught up on my people watching. It was delightful.
.
I passed. After the 2nd hour/prick my numbers dropped by 25 and so basically, it took my body 2 hours to digest the glucose and have my insulin levels tapper off.
.
Unfortunately, I have been instructed to limit extra sugars (Sorry Ashley and Christina, No more G's Dairy runs).
.
On a positive note, BGB is a very active girl and I am measuring perfectly and gaining the right amount of weight. It isn't the most fun I've had stepping on the scale and seeing those numbers and think that this is the heaviest I have ever been in my whole entire life,....BUT. Oh well.
.
Ryan and I are taking off for NORTH CAROLINA (what up) on Saturday to spend 10 glorious days of sunshine with my family. We are definitely looking forward to lots of family time considering my brother and his family are moving to Pennsylvania for Law School at Penn State and my sister is moving to Oklahoma for grad school at The University of Oklahoma. This will be the last time in awhile before we are reunited again.
.
Lastly, grades came out for the summer semester and Ryan and I both got awesome grades. It is such a reward after a long and treacherous semester getting your grades back and you see lots of A's. We celebrated by eating at Winger's.

99 days

BAH FINALS WEEK IS HERE!!!
-
Good things to report:
-
> We went to Ryan's LAST FA 100 event last weekend. And yes we did save the best for last:
"The Women's Glee/Bluegrass Concert." I didn't get the Bluegrass group. I mean, is it really required to wear country attire when singing country music? I don't get it. I guess the flannel and cowboy boots need to serve a purpose somehow.
-
>I ROCKed it on my Epidemiology Final. Many of you ladies know about the "pregnancy forgetfulness." I was worried about this final. I powered through and Heavenly Father defintely guided me.
Epidemiology: the branch of medicine dealing with the incidence and prevalence of disease in large populations and with detection of the source and cause of epidemics of infectious disease.
-
>Today, Ryan completed his last research paper. Yes, he really did have to write 4. And yes, I had to proof-read them all. (I am such an awesome wife)
-
>On Monday afternoon, we will be welcoming my Mom and sister, Jill for the night. My sister is going to Oklahoma University for Grad School and so her and my Mom are road tripping out there. The first stop is here in Rexburg. And yes, I already scheduled a couple hours for the Teton Flood Museum :-) and Wingers for dinner :-) :-) Just kidding, Mom.
-
>Did you notice we are at 99 days until D-day? I can't believe we are now in double digits. There is SO much to do. My next appt this coming Tuesday will be a serious one.
>Gestational Diabetes test. You drink this aweful sugary flat pop/tang type of drink and they test your insulin levels.
>Rhogam shot. I am O- blood so they give me a big shot in my bum so the blood antibodies won't hurt me and the baby and future babies. I hear it's a HUGE needle and it hurts.
>Excited to see how much weight I've gained this month.
>And to hear BGB's heartbeat through a stethoscope.
-
We leave for North Carolina for 10 days on August 1st. HOORAY for a vacay.
Ry and I deserve it!!!!

I really do try

Honestly, I try to keep my trashy shows to a minimum. (but don't ask Ryan because he'd say differently...)
-
Maybe because the NYC Housewives isn't on anymore...hahaha
-
Anyways, I enjoy watching shows about babies (i.e. TLC Baby Story) but I haven't enjoyed watching I Didn't Know I was Pregnant Because I think they are all liars. Trust me, you KNOW when you're pregnant. When that baby inside you moves around like an octopus, you definitely know it's NOT gas. I also hate The Secret Life of an American Teenager. No comments for that show. I am so tired of hearing about these young teenage girls getting pregnant in high school.
-
I have recently come across the new MTV show 16 and Pregnant. It's like a car crash....it's so painful to watch but you can't turn away. For most of the season, I haven't been impressed at all with these girls who become pregnant at 16. It's pretty simple, you have unprotected sex, you can get pregnant. They must have missed that day in High School health class. And the whining and complaining about "being young" and "missing out on Prom" and "my Mom won't help me" and "why can't you take care of the baby while I go out and party?" blah blah blah...sick of it!!! Take responsibility!!
-
This last show that I watched, however, was definitely different. This poor couple seriously looked SO young and I was so sad for them. They decided early on that they would consider adoption because both their families were extremely messed up and dysfunctional. They knew that family support would not be an option. Both their parents were against the adoption plans because the Dad said the son wasn't "manning up to his responsibilities" and "providing a good life for their baby." The son quickly responded, "sorry Dad, you spent 10 years of my life in Prison...you can't say anything about providing for Your family." Those kids were strong until the end. They found a wonderful family to give the baby to and everything was so tender. Ryan goes, "I bet they're Mormon." hahaha They weren't, but you could tell that they were the right family for this baby.
-
And yes, I cried throughout the whole show.
-
We will both screw up a lot. Duh, isn't that a given characteristic when you become a parent? But, at least I know we did one thing right as parents. Ryan and I have been sealed as a family for Time and All Eternity. Our baby, BGB (baby girl Briggs) as my mom calls her, will be born into the covenant which means she will be receiving blessings because of our Temple marriage and she is sealed to us, for Eternity. Life is hard. Life is always hard, but because we have set this standard in our marriage, I know we will be able to take on the world.

The three of us.
