Brinley's Big Girl Bed!

Yes, I'm still pregnant.

I knooooow we've been talking about moving Brinley into a big girl bed for MONTHS. Trust me. It has been a process. Trying to find the mattress for her has been stressful and kind of draining. It is so hard to find a good mattress, with the box spring AND a frame for under $300-$400. We didn't want to go super cheap with the mattress because we will have family sleep in it when they come (aka my mother when she comes down when the baby is born) but we didn't think we needed the best either. Ideally, we wanted to get a full mattress, but we decided on a twin.

We finally tracked down a great deal on a twin mattress set at Big Lots. Unfortunately, they don't deliver! So then to find someone with a truck. After a few days of asking around, we found our truck guy for a cheap fee of Paula Deen's Cinnamon Rolls. Then it was arranging schedules to go buy and pick it up with Ryan.

Finally, last Friday, we were able to get the stars to align and the $300 twin mattress, box spring, and frame was finally IN our place. We first put the mattress set on the frame, but it added like 6 inches to the height and it was already super high. It sits much better on the ground.
Obviously, she is over the moon about her new bed!

Alert 37 week belly. and a Hanes v-neck. Oh wait, and black leggings. BIG surprise :-)

Another change we made was that she could only pick 2 stuffed animals to be in her bed. The "gang" was getting excessive and now she is able to really pick her favorites.

First night in her bed. She did great! It took her awhile to settle down, but she was just so dang excited to be in a big bed!

Our biggest rule is that once you are IN bed, aka bedtime and nap time, you cannot get out of your bed. You must call for mom or dad. Thankfully, she has been perfect at this and hasn't gotten out (that we know of). She woke up during that first night around 5am because she said she had to go potty and she needed a snack. So she ate a few pretzels in bed while we cuddled for a minute. She went right back to bed and slept in until 8am.

Nap time hasn't been a problem either. Some days, she has been playing in her bed but after a few talks from mom, she settles down and goes to sleep. Some naps are only an hour long, and others are closer to 2 hours. Either way, she is sleeping in her bed without a problem!

Ridiculous, right!? So adorable! This was from nap time.

I know we are very lucky to have had a relatively easy transition into her big bed. She was at the perfect age and understood completely the rules about her new found independence. I do occasionally threaten putting her back into her crib if she doesn't go to sleep at nap time, but she says, Nooo, that's for baby _____!!!!" She quiets down immediately and goes to sleep :-)

  1. This gives me hope.......when Savannah moves to the toddler bed we will get James a big boy bed. I'm hoping they both do well with the adjustment. Right now they have to sleep in separate rooms because they wake each other up trying to fall asleep.
